TANZANIA · EAST AFRICA · INDIAN OCEAN
The soul of the Indian Ocean.
Come a little closerKARIBU ZANZIBAR
A sail filling with wind. Cloves warming in a pan. A conversation that lasts longer than the coffee.
Zanzibar stays with you in small, unexpected ways. In the narrow lanes of Stone Town, in the rhythm of Swahili spoken across a market, in the quiet between the tide going out and coming home.
African at its heart, shaped by centuries of exchange with Arabia, India and the wider Indian Ocean. Come for the water. Leave with a much bigger story.

01 / OCEAN
Walk out with the tide. Watch the colours change. Make time for a reef, a quiet stretch of sand and a dhow returning on the evening breeze.
Sea conditions and tides shape every outing. Choose operators who keep their distance from dolphins and protect the reef.
Make room for this
STONE TOWN, UNGUJABEYOND THE POSTCARD
Start on foot. Take the smaller lane. Stop for coffee. Stone Town’s carved doors, coral-stone buildings and waterfront tell of an island connected to a much wider world.
This is a living town, not a museum set. Homes, workshops, places of worship and markets share these streets. A thoughtful local guide adds the voices and context that a photograph cannot.
Zanzibar was a major centre of the East African slave trade. Visit the former slave-market memorial with time to listen and reflect. The island’s history includes human suffering as well as cultural exchange; both deserve to be understood.

COLLECT MOMENTS, NOT ROOM NIGHTS
Coffee, a morning walk and a little time to get happily lost.
Cloves, cinnamon and a spice-farm visit led by the people who grow them.
A tide-aware swim. A long lunch. No hurry to be anywhere else.
A dhow, the evening breeze and a horizon worth putting your phone away for.
A little inspiration, not a fixed schedule. Let tides, weather and your hosts guide the day.

ONE COUNTRY. AN EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEY.
The plains of the Serengeti. The mountain world of Kilimanjaro. Then the Indian Ocean. Zanzibar can be the beginning, the ending, or the place you decide to stay a little longer.
YOUR TIME, YOUR RHYTHM
A few days to explore, a week to settle in, or a bigger Tanzanian journey. Start with an idea and make it your own.
These are suggested routes, not bookable packages. Transport, access and availability need confirming before travel.
“Talk it through” opens an email draft to Pin Destinations. Nothing is sent until you send it.
A FEW THINGS WORTH KNOWING
The way you visit
is part of the story.
On the east coast, the shoreline changes dramatically with the tide. Ask your host about local swimming conditions and plan boat trips with an experienced operator.
Dress with consideration in towns and villages. Ask before photographing people. A greeting and a little patience go a long way.
Choose local guides, craftspeople and places to eat. Refill where safe, carry your litter out and leave shells and coral where they belong.
Check current entry requirements with Tanzania Immigration and Zanzibar’s current visitor insurance information at Visit Zanzibar. Requirements can change; confirm them for your passport and travel dates before booking.
Stay in Stone Town for walks, history and the waterfront. Look north towards Nungwi and Kendwa for beach time, or east towards Paje and Jambiani for broad tidal shorelines. Ask each property about beach access, local surroundings and transport before deciding.
Build in time for transfers and check current flight schedules before committing to a route. A Kilimanjaro climb is a separate, multi-day undertaking that needs its own preparation; a visit to the foothills is a different experience. Our 12-day idea includes the foothills, not a summit climb.
